Join us for a nationwide day of activities collecting aid for Syria
On Saturday 31 August, the whole country is coming together to do one big event for Syria. Towns and cities across the UK will be hosting activities and collection points so that everyone can help us gather much needed aid donations.
We want you to get involved. All you have to do is buy some of the items we are collecting and go along to your nearest event or collection point to drop them off. These events and drop off points will be open for one day only however - 31 August 2013.
Everything that has been collected will then be brought to our warehouses where it will be organised and sent to Syria in mid-September. Urgent aid will go by road, non-urgent aid will be sent by sea.
Volunteer your time
If you cannot donate any aid yourself, you can still help by donating your time. Lots of volunteers will be needed at each event to sort and pack the aid and get it down to one of our warehouses. You can contact the individual organisers to get involved locally.
If your local area is not currently represented, why not organise an activity of your own? You could make it an event such as a summer BBQ, a cake sale at work, a church or mosque open day, or a supermarket collection.
Tell us about your plans
We'd love to hear what you have planned. If it's a public event, email us the details so that we can list it on our page and help to promote it. Don't forget to send us some photos of your collected aid!
Our aim is to send ten vehicles of aid to Syria. If you would like to help this project financially you can donate online here with reference 'big aid drop'

Don't worry, we've done this before
Hand in Hand for Syria successfully organised a big nationwide collection of aid in October 2012 called the 'Road to Syria' aid convoy.
This had significant public support and was featured on BBC Breakfast. You can watch the news report here.
However we have been sending in this way to Syria for over 18 months and have accumulated significant experience at doing it.
You can rest assured that your aid donations will reach those who need them quickly and safely.
How your donations will help
The conflict in Syria has left over 4 million people in need of humanitarian aid. This includes everything from food, clean water, and medical care to shelter. Many have been unable to flee the country and are now living in unfinished buildings, abandoned vehicles or makeshift refugee camps in Syria. Another 1.8 million people have now left the country.
The situation is continuing to deteriorate due to the fighting, rocketing inflation and ongoing shortages in market supplies. In many areas the health system has completely collapsed.
Hand in Hand for Syria has already delivered over £1.5 million worth of emergency humanitarian and medical aid to people in Syria. However with your help we can do more.
By making time to raise money and collect aid for Hand in Hand for Syria, you can help us to feed more people, treat more of the injured and shelter more of the displaced. Please help us if you can.
